PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- The PGA Golf Club, in Port St. Lucie, Fla., has named Holly Taylor and Brian Robertson as its two new PGA head professionals. In addition, fitness expert David Donatucci has been appointed to serve as the new director of fitness and performance at the PGA Learning Center. Combined with the PGA Historical Center golf museum, the PGA Golf Club and PGA Learning Center comprise PGA Village, which was named one of the "75 Best Golf Resorts in North America" by Golf Digest.
"With Holly Taylor, Brian Robertson and David Donatucci now onboard at PGA Village, we have a world-class lineup of top experts in the game, business and fitness of golf to offer our guests the Ultimate Golf Experience at the Ultimate Golf Destination," said Bob Baldassari, PGA general manager, PGA Village. "This is all part of PGA Village's commitment to enhance the customer experience at the PGA Golf Club, PGA Learning Center and PGA Historical Center.
Holly Taylor, the first female PGA head professional in PGA Golf Club history, will oversee the tournaments and events that are fixtures throughout the PGA Golf Club's annual schedule, such as the TaylorMade-Adidas Golf PGA Assistant Professional Championship and the TaylorMade-adidas Golf PGA Winter Championships; the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship; and the Srixon PGA Tournament Series, in addition to the many tournaments and charitable events available for the general public to participate in at the PGA Golf Club.
"To help lead the staff at the PGA Golf Club is a distinct honor and pleasure," said Taylor. "It is my mission and goal to offer both PGA members and everyday golfers a tournament experience of the highest caliber, while also maintaining and elevating the PGA Golf Club's standing among the top facilities in the world."
Taylor became a PGA Professional in 1994, after having worked with PGA Director of Golf Bill Whaley at Inverrary Country Club in Ft. Lauderdale. She went on to become a PGA assistant professional at Plymouth (Mass.) Country Club and then at Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton, Mass. Taylor served as PGA head professional at Rockland (Mass.) Golf Course; Waverly Oaks Golf Club in Plymouth, Mass.; Olde Scotland Links Golf Course in Bridgewater, Mass.; and South Shore Country Club in Hingham, Mass., her most recent position. She has also been honored for her work in player development from the PGA's Presidents Council on Growing the Game.
A 1985 Boston College graduate with a B.A. in Economics, Taylor played for the school's women's golf and ice hockey teams. She is a former United States Figure Skating Association gold medalist in figures, the compulsory events that used to be requirements of the overall skating competition.
Brian Robertson will lead the merchandising for PGA Village. He is also charged with the operations of the PGA Golf Club's Golf Shop. Both Taylor and Robertson will work in conjunction to handle the day-to-day management of staff and on-site operations.
Elected to PGA membership in 1996, Robertson worked for the Golden Bear Club at Keene's Point, in Windemere, Fla., since 2000, most recently serving as PGA head professional/director of food & beverage operations. He was also PGA head professional/general manager at Potomac Ridge Golf Club in Waldorf, Md.; PGA head professional at Ocean City (Md.) Golf and Yacht Club; and PGA head assistant professional at River Run Golf Club, also in Ocean City. He also competed on the Florida Mini-Tours and Winter Tour from 1991-1995.
Robertson has served on the Middle Atlantic PGA Section's Membership Board and its Northern Chapter Education and Assistant's Boards; as well as on the Board of Directors and as President for the Junior Golf Association of Central Florida. Robertson was also previously nominated as Assistant of the Year for both the Middle Atlantic and North Florida PGA Sections. In addition, he was Secretary of the ECC Chapter for the North Florida PGA Section; helped established the EWGA on the Eastern Shore of Maryland; served as a Players Ability Test Examiner for The PGA of America; and was a member of the Wilson Advisory Board, and the Board for both the Johnny Damon/Keene's Pointe Charity Classic Tournament and Doc Rivers' Celebrity Invitational. He has been a member of the TaylorMade Home Pro staff since 2000.
"It's a dream come true for me to work with The PGA of America this closely in growing the game of golf," said Robertson.
David Donatucci will now play a key role within the PGA Learning Center's revitalized Instruction Department. He previously worked as the Head Performance Specialist at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy, where he designed and implemented exercise programs. He also worked with golf instructors to evaluate and prescribe exercise and nutrition regimens to improve mobility, flexibility and stability for the Academy's students. Donatucci also served as Director of IMG's International Performance Institute and as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the WNBA's Cleveland Rockers. From 1996-99, he was a Coordinator for the Center for Athletic Performance for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Section of Sports Medicine, where he was a physiological and conditioning consultant for the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers and Olympic-candidate figure skaters.
"The inclusion and emphasis of fitness and nutrition into the curriculum of club fitting and golf instruction at the PGA Learning Center is a significant step for The PGA of America," said Brad Sullivan, PGA senior director for member programs. "And David Donatucci is extremely qualified to lead those efforts."
A featured speaker at the 2007 World Golf Fitness Summit, Donatucci is also an annual presenter at the American Sports Medicine Institute's Injuries in Baseball Conference. He has also made presentations at the Cleveland Clinic Sports Medicine Conference, National Strength and Conditioning Association's Sport Specific Training Conference, the Arnold Classic Strength Summit, Excelsior Sports Performance Conference and the International Performance Institute's Strength Training Conference.
"It is a tremendous thrill to join the staff of the PGA Learning Center, where I can take the knowledge and skills of developing programs for the world's most elite athletes and transfer it to both top PGA Professionals and everyday golfers," said Donatucci, who holds a Masters Degree in Education/Exercise Science from Cleveland State University. "The focus on fitness and nutrition is all part of the new and exciting offerings we are adding for golfers, as part of the 'Ultimate Golf Experience' at PGA Village."
