
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Jim Remy of Ludlow, Vt., was elected the 36th president of The Professional Golfers' Association of America today by delegates at the Association's 92nd Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Ariz. Remy previously served as Secretary of the Association from 2004-2006 and Vice President from 2006-2008. He is the first member of the New England PGA Section to be elected President of The PGA of America.
The 11th PGA Teaching and Coaching Summit will be staged Dec. 3-7 at the PGA Learning Center in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The Summit carries the theme, "Leading Instructional Growth into the Future," and extends through three days of focus on teaching methodologies of the past, present and future.
A memorable 2008 golf season, complete with a stunning United States' Ryder Cup victory and the first European in 78 years to win a PGA Championship, highlight The PGA of America's Year in Review, which will be presented by Golf Channel, beginning Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. (ET and Pacific).
The National Alliance for Accessible Golf has awarded more than $50,000 to expand the GAINTM (Golf: Accessible and Inclusive Networks) program nationwide. Due to the strong interest in the program, the deadline for 2009 grant applications has been extended to January 16, 2009.
PGA Professional Steve Hogan, who became a legend for redirecting the lives of city youth through his "Hogan's Junior Golf Heroes" program in Omaha, Neb., lost a lengthy battle with cancer, Nov. 22. He was 55.
