PGA Career Services is the new name of the former PGA Employment department. As part of the PGA of America’s long-term strategic plan, the expansion of PGA Career Consultants in the field has gone from 10 to 18 this year, with a total of 23 staffers committed to daily Career Services operations.
The title change reflects an updated approach to helping PGA Professionals and others in the golf industry pursue their desired career paths, improve their compensation, and prepare them for current and future employment opportunities. The Career Services department also has a new focus on helping employers find the right fit for open positions across the golf operation, including general management roles and non-traditional career paths.
The Career Services department is also expanding its reach by participating in the golf employment market using new methods. The department will now work with industry search firms when they are filling a position in the golf industry. The Career Services department continues to forge relationships with the largest golf facility operators such as Troon Golf, ClubCorp, Topgolf and GOLFTEC, which all employ PGA golf professionals in a variety of career paths.
In the past, many PGA Professionals interacted with the Employment department when they found themselves needing a new job. But by focusing on education and networking, the revamped Career Services department is geared toward being much more than the “unemployment” department.
“We want Career Services to help throughout the maturation of your career, from becoming a professional through retirement,” says PGA CEO Pete Bevacqua. “That’s one of the reasons we’ve renamed the department Career Services – it’s more than just employment. It’s a package of services that golf professionals can rely on through all stages of their career and development.”
